For the MAGNETOM Flow platform, we have developed a bespoke lighting solution that integrates RGBW lighting technology into a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system for the very first time. These custom-designed luminaires enable dynamic light control with full color spectrum and highperformance white light, redefining both patient comfort and functional requirements within clinical workflows.

The key challenge was to implement a high-quality lighting solution in an electromagnetically demanding environment without compromising the stringent safety, hygiene, and EMC requirements of the MRI platform. Through our OEM luminaire development and extensive electromagnetic isolation, Ambright succeeded in delivering homogeneous, flicker-free, and intuitively controllable lighting that is directly integrated into the MAGNETOM Flow gantry.

The new RGBW color control supports different scenarios throughout the patient workflow—from calming color transitions to promote relaxation before the examination to functional white light during technical procedures. The lighting solution is manufactured in industrial series production, resistant to cleaning agents and moisture, and approved for continuous operation in medical environments. This integration combines state-of-the-art lighting technology with the highest medical and technical standards, setting a new benchmark for patient-centric lighting design in magnetic resonance imaging.
